“You’re running out of time, kid, and you don’t realize” — Photo of grandfather looking lonely as grandson plays with phone during meal breaks netizens’ hearts

Since the beginning of the internet, technologies have allowed us to connect to other people even when they are a world away. Sadly, it has somehow made many of us disconnected and lonelier than ever.

Just like this grandfather who sits at the same table with a young boy who might be his grandson, just wanting to sit down and share a good time together.

In a viral post on Twitter shared by the user @ Daxiett, a grandfather can be seen sitting across a young boy at a McDonald’s restaurant.

At first glance, it may look like a typical scene of diners at a fast-food restaurant until you realized the gloomy expression the grandfather has on his aging face.

Unfortunately, the grandson seems too absorbed in his smartphone. Along with over-ear headphones, he is probably too engrossed with his phone that he completely disregards his lonely grandfather.

“You’re running out of time, kid, and you don’t realize,” the caption writes.

The post has since been retweeted over 71,000 times and received 142,805 likes with many shared similar thoughts.

One netizen commented on how lonely the grandfather looks in the photo. “One does not know what he would give for just a hug. Look him in the eye and say, ‘I love you, grandpa.’”

Meanwhile, another commented, “You don’t know and when you know it, there’s little time left or it’s too late; because that only happens when you become an adult and a child will never see it that way even if you try to explain it.”

If you have made it a habit to bring and bury your face in your smartphone to the dining table, perhaps it is time to put it down for a while.

Have a meaningful conversation with your family members instead of scrolling social media news feed, while you still can.

We can always get a new smartphone or a new tablet when it is broken but we will never be able to replace the ones we loved once they have left the world for good.
